[Coo-ee]: The Australian bush call; an expression of the freedom and awe of being in nature.
“KOO-EE!” was a call first made by Indigenous Australians to communicate across vast distances. It is now used by all Australians in the outdoors. So, next time you’re in a spectacular location, shout out a big “KOOEE!”. The video below has a few small tips.
Kooee! All Natural Snacks is based in Tasmania, Australia.
But – the journey actually started in the USA. Founder Andy Fist, a Tasmanian, was working in New York City for outdoor events company Tough Mudder.
He started running with compatriot Shaun Malligan, who eventually confessed that his hobby of crafting healthy jerky was spinning out of control, and rapidly becoming his main occupation.
Eventually this passion turned into KOOEE!, and Shaun continues to grow KOOEE! in the USA. Andy eventually moved back to Tasmania, bought a factory, and started making KOOEE! products on home soil (sounds simple, but it took 2 years!).
We’re now regulars at Tasmanian Farmers’ Markets, and we’ve been delighted to receive lots of support from the local community.
We have also been fortunate to receive funding from the Federal Government, and have pledged to create jobs at our factory in regional Tasmania.
Director of KOOEE! All Natural Snacks and a seventh generation Tasmanian – he jumped at the chance to bring KOOEE! to home soil. Andy enjoys hiking and trail running in the beautiful Tasmanian wilderness.
Australian living in the USA. After years in the corporate world, Shaun chose to focus on his passion for healthy living and launched KOOEE! He’s very active and loves CrossFit, rugby, and running. He also dives for abalone when visiting Andy in Tasmania.
Raised in Sydney with sport in her blood. With an Olympic gold medal cyclist and elite squash player for parents, she’s been running fast since she could stand on two feet. With three degrees, the resident smarty pants keeps the team moving in the right direction. Along with Shaun she loves maintaining an active lifestyle, often out training for her next marathon.
Works as a designer for KOOEE! and is based in Boulder, Colorado. Growing up on a horse ranch in Western North Dakota, Jamie shared dreams of becoming a cowboy with his twin brother. On sunny days, Jamie likes to play golf, or hike the spectacular surrounds of Boulder.
The designer responsible for the beautiful illustrations of the Tasmanian Wilderness on our packaging. Her love of design and art took her to New York City, where she has worked at some leading design studios. On sunny days Pika can be found hiking or trail running with her awesome dog Croc.
Good nutrition is an important part of an active lifestyle, but it isn’t easy, especially when most snacks are full of sugar and preservatives.
KOOEE! started out on our kitchen table with just some grass-fed beef and the belief that we could make good snacks for our friends and family. Things have changed since that humble original batch, but our idea remains the same—jerky can be healthy. Marinated in a unique blend of delicious spices, coconut aminos, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and sea salt, our 100% grass-fed beef jerky is free from added sugar, nitrates, preservatives and anything artificial.
We use Cape Grim Beef, raised free-range and 100% Grass-Fed in Tasmania. It is simply the highest quality beef on the market (you might get to try some if you’re lucky enough to fly QANTAS First Class). Our Apple Cider Vinegar is produced locally by Spreyton Fresh.
